Where I'm From
I’m from sunny summer days, sitting at the picnic table,
waiting patiently for freshly fried fish
and enjoying the smiles surrounding steamy bites.
I’m from bike rides, pedaling furiously up hills,
feeling accomplished when I reach the ice cream shop
and enjoying the race of licking before it melts.
I’m from annual mini-golf tournaments, carefully calculating swings,
cheering when my brother gets a hole-in-one
and enjoying the excitement of a winning stroke.
I’m from lazy afternoons, slowly swinging in the hammock,
immersing myself in a brand new book
and enjoying the unfolding story.
I’m from cool, clear water, swimming soundlessly,
playing “sink the kayak” with my siblings
and enjoying the rippling waves.
I’m from walks around the lake, splashing in the water,
pointing toward the distant loon
and enjoying the soft sand squish around my toes.
I’m from sunny summer days, bike rides, lazy afternoons,
making memories each year at the campground
and enjoying the adventures each day brings.
