i feel like drowning
the ocean meets the sea where the waves meet salt
and sometimes i feel i am drowning in myself
but then i realize it is not myself at all but the water
it just feels so much like my own body that i forget i am floating at all
and weightless is not the word because i carry the weight of myself
and 6 or 8 pounds extra slung across my hip bones so i don’t float
but it is this weight that makes me feel like i am flying upside down like the clouds are coral muted by light filtration and the fish are seagulls torn by air currents
and fear is not an absolute contraindication
and did you know you can open your eyes in salt water if you close them at the surface
