Bittersweet Ruby
She picked a rose
Much like herself
Not yet bloomed
Vibrant emerald in color
Full of potential
She held it high to the bright heavens
Apricating its pointed leaves
Idolizing what it could become
Then
She crushed it
As her bare fist turned scarlet with blood
Barbed wire through her fingers
Her only thought
As her mother once said
“Beauty is pain”
