tschay haliu
do you remember?
when i cried
and you held me?
do you remember?
the tibs and shiro we ate?
do you remember?
the song we sang?
the one that went
"eshururururu secfecheme azeyea"?
do you, አባት?
do you, abati?
do you, Dad?

this poem was directly inspired by Gayle Foreman's I Have Lost My Way. "tchay haliu" is the name of the lulluby sung by one of the main character's father who left when she was young. The lyrics are in Amharic, the national language of Ethiopia.
