Things need to be so poetic

It doesn’t matter if it’s real

As long as it sounds good.

Use words you don’t know

And make up lines no one understands

But if it ‘flows’ you’re fine.

I’m supposed to be expressing my feelings

Why can’t I use slang and curses

Even if it’s for school.

Poetry is supposed to be a voice for the voiceless

But if you’re voiceless I doubt you’d know words like Coquette

Just say the word tease or sl*t

But that’s not okay

Not in todays world

If you’re going to write poetry it has to sound like the poems written in 1887

But it’s 2019!

Times have changed

Words have evolved.

What defines poetic?

What makes something poetic?

Shouldn’t that be the authors choice?
