Goodbye friends, goodbye home

Hello highway i'll get to know

Drive past farms, drive past dirt roads

A car overflowed

With a trunk full of clothes

To college one goes

A place where one grows

All by oneself

Saying farewell

To everything familiar

The taste of sweet bitter

Having the freedom

Trying not to be dumb

And to be my best version

The author's comments:

This poem was inspired by the month of august. I didn't wanna write about a certain holiday. So I wrote about a event that'll be happening in that month. It's a really life changing event going to the college so I thought it'd be the perfect idea for the month. I tried to picture the day I leave and get inspiration from what I saw and felt.

I also like to rhyme in my poems because I feel it adds a little extra to it. This poem went through a lot of editing and I cut a lot of extra words. It really helped make the poem stronger. My first draft of the poem really did not feel right. The final draft I really liked and the way it sounded I was happy with.
