Tie it Tighter
Oh, America,
You’ve made them deaf to my cries
But I swear to you I will continue to scream.
You’re people listen to the news channels
And read the magazines that
Victimize you, and make me out to be the guilty one,
And they believe it.
All I’ve done was fear you and what you’ve made your people.
But then again, they’re my people too.
My home is on your land, and home is where the heart is.
So long as my heart is beating,
I will worship whom I please,
Speak in the language I fancy,
And wear whatever I want.
So dear America,
When I wear the hijab
And you insult me for it,
I will not take it off,
But instead, I will
Tie it tighter.

It's an exemplification of everything I am and am hoping to be in a country that is struggling to accept me for who I am.
