Disappearing Dad Act
When I was young
you loved me so much
We'd stick out our tongues
And laugh a bunch
Life went on and everything changed
Used to be rainbows and sun
But all colors drained
Laughs were done and sorrow begun
I figured you would stay
Thought that's what dads do
My life was left to fray
And I never saw you
A hidden blessing?
Most definitely
No one knew you existed, how depressing
I embarrassed me
Love is not torment
There's always more
It starts as a disagreement
and ends in War.
I love writing poetry because it allows you to write down all of your emotions and it is so lyrical. I cannot write songs and music is usually my coping mechanism but poetry does the same thing. This piece is about my relationship with my dad. Although I would hide my feelings with laughter, it hurt and this poem allowed me to realize that how things turned out were the best and I am grateful for my family now.
