The Lam
The white stripes
on the ground beside me blend together,
one endless line.
The faces I meet,
with seemingly blank expressions,
give a brief glance as I speed past.
I shudder,
it happens upon me,
this may be the last time
I navigate this highway.
A journey I never thought I’d endure.
Hours ago I was standing
after finishing the grim reaper’s job.
It happened so suddenly,
the second degree.
Arising this morning,
I couldn’t foresee myself going 80 on Route 66.
But a grim expedition awaits.
