Pitter patter

Nails down the hall

A golden furball

Red ribbon tied

Neatly in a bow

Like a collar

His ears and paws

To big for his body

He tumbles into me

I scoop him up

He nuzzles my neck

Then nips my ear

I know I should

Correct his behavior

But he's too cute

What am I supposed to do

The christmas tree lights

Reflected in

His big brown eyes

That was months ago

Now he is bigger

Naughtier

What am I supposed to do

He eats my hair ties

Accidents on the carpet

He bit the cat

Mom yells at me

To care for him

I don't have time

Between work and school

What am I supposed to do

He began eating things

More and more things

The vet bill rising

My savings account dropping

The doctor says no more

But he doesn't

Understand he’s a dog

He just keeps on going

What am I supposed to do

Today he broke

My grandma's urn

Mom said that's it

He's gone

I shed many tears

we drove to the shelter

They asked for the reason

Mom said tis the season

We just can't handle him

What am I supposed to do

I missed him like crazy

I wanted him back

So I checked the shelter

He's gone

He was adopted

But I didn't stop

I got the information

For his new owners

Then made a phone call

They told me

Never to call again

Then I saw in the paper

A few days later

His new owners

Imprisoned

I wondered why

Tears streaming

down my cheeks

My poor baby

Beaten

Skinned

And hung alive

For the amusement

Of his so called

Family

He was only 7

7 months old
