A Letter To My Body
A Letter To My Body
Dear body,
Your delivery system is broken
You robbed me of my thigh gap and exchanged it for stretch marks
You gave me an extra chin I didn’t order
A nose too big
Boobs to small
Flab where there should be abs
And a hunch that devours my presence whole
I hate you.
But you gave me arms that can swim in the deepest of waters
Feet that can sprint up any mountain
Hands that can coddle any baby and wipe any tear
Legs that can jump on any trampoline
A pair of eyes that can experience any sunset
And the freedom to roll down any grassy hill
And twirl and twirl and twirl until the world is no longer real
I love you.
Sincerely, your soul

Many people, girls specifically, struggle with body image and suffer from body dysmorphia. In this poem I try to convey that a body is much more than your physical appearance, but a way of movement and your tool to enjoy life and all it has to offer. This poem shows that your body is much more than just pounds and skin and recognizes all the things we take advantage of, and that it deserves to be loved.
