River
Starting from the snow,
above the peak of the mountain.
It fell onto the steep slopes and slid.
Far, far down the mountain
All the way into the river.
The river that runs over the rocks.
Rocks of all colors,
rocks of all sizes,
rocks of all shapes.
The river that runs across the logs
of the fallen trees.
Fallen from the Spring
when the river ran high from the melted snow.
Sweeping the trees out from under their feet.
The feet that strapped them to the Earth.
The Earth that holds so many trees, rivers, and rocks.
The river that runs along with fish.
Fish of all kinds.
The same river ran across
the different colored scales,
the fish of different sizes,
the fish of different shapes.
The river runs faster, faster
as it winds down the globe.
Racing to the ocean
The ocean fed by millions of rivers,
rivers that were the home to so many.
The river drops into the ocean
where it is heard no more.
