The Glistening White Keys
Piano is like singing with your hands and reading at the same time
The glistening white keys of the piano shout out my name
Sing with me, tap your hands on my surface
The only thing the keys want is for me to play with them
So, I sit down and read the sheet music
I see the notes: A, B, C, D, E, F, and G
And my hands magically start to sing
The whole room starts filling with joy
I glide my fingers across the piano
I walk my hands all over the keys, up, down, back, and around
I can see the hammers inside the piano hitting the string
Each measure like a new sentence of expression
I hold the sustain pedal
I want the sound to stay forever and ever
When the sound leaves, my ears feel empty
They feel as empty as a lake with no water
Don’t blame the keys for being wrong
Don’t hurt the keys with a hammer
Play the keys with a feather, swish swish
Don’t get mad at them for singing off key
You are the one who needs to make the keys sing
So play

Piano is my favorite thing to do, so I decided to write a poem describing the feeling I get when playing. I hope this piece of poetry inspires more people to take on the adventure of playing an instrument, and love it as much as I do.
