war
the sun setting over what once was
Eden
you love for the wrong reasons
(you may have been told there is no wrong
way to love for love is eternal and blissful
and purifies the gardens that he-)
you love for the way his eyes turn into
soft slits
blinking casinos and material dispositions before
your money (touch) hungry
crooked fingers
the way the little wrinkles
dancing crows that slowly press their feet into
his skin
they form with a soul tearing smile
for you know you’re his now
the way your hands intertwine and
fall apart to the side like toy soldiers with
their priorities set on the wrong side of
a gummy candy world
for their globe knows not of
true war and sacrifice but
candy cane splinters
where you can softly lick
away the pain
hurt does not
go away that easily aside from board games and
paper cuts from yesterday’s tongue
you fall in love with cold feet and
shivering so violent the earth shakes
in your wake
he makes you feel like zeus
the shaking of worlds
upside down where heaven is hell and
purgatory seems like a fool’s
paradise compared to the skies
you created
the way he reminds you
you can do what you love and
still love him because
he may be eros and you are a
mortal underneath his
beautiful venom tipped arrows
you fall in love with him perhaps because
this is a dream and you will not
find love in Eden’s wreckage and
the apple falls from your lips like
a snake skin illusion over your
newly wedded ribs
you fall in love because you have
wishful thinking when your mind is ravaged with
sweet icicles and the taste of
rain in a wooded storm
when your eyelashes fly
off of your face again like black birds
and only he understands
that this is the
deception of
true war
