Destiny's Grasp
There should be nothing here I don’t remember…
Leaves changing hues like apples ripening
Littering the long driveway leading up to the yellow house
Ever unripe cherries being scavenged by the blue jays
and the woodpeckers
and the cardinals
Earnest bees prepping for the winter under the porch
There should be nothing here I don’t remember…
Snow, like paper,
Getting smudged like an eraser
Forgetting all our homework while we’re there
Dust drifting past me from the nearby fireplace
Getting the first pick on which bathroom to use every day
There should be nothing here I don’t remember…
Except the house isn’t theirs anymore
Having felt nature’s wrath
I’m 15 now, reminiscing about memories I made over my childhood
Now someone else has got the place where all those memories were made
A place I can’t revisit, only treasure in my dreams
