"Work smart, not hard"

We know you are struggling, and society does not make it any better

Where your life feels like it's crumbling,

When we think that every boy or girl is the one, and “Loving” –

Our parents, adults, telling us it's a phase,

Thinking that depression is going away

When really it stays,

We’ll use many words but the most used one, is wait,

Wondering if we will feel secure like a baby again

Wondering if we’ll ever feel safe again

Teachers becoming concerned, asking why we are falling behind

But they'll never learn what is going on in our mind,

Therapists telling you to heed their advice

But your mind is just frozen as if it is a cube of ice

20 years later you’re now gasping to breathe, to live happy,

Haha your life will always seem somewhat tacky,

So to the adults, to my family who always said it was a “phase” –

It’s not just a phase, this is eternity.

The author's comments:

What inspired me to write this piece is the fact it's happening right now in this world, especially since the covid pandemic has been happening. I had noticed that not only has my sibling been suffering but I have seen behavioral change in my friends and peers. I know that our parents don't make it any better when they put the blame on our phones and say that " it's a phase, we went through it at your age". To the young adults who are reading this I want you to know that, You're not alone in this. I want you to know that you can make a change too, all you have to do is speak what you feel, be open and vocal. To the parents or adults that are reading this, I really want this to be an eye opener of to what's going on in most of our young adulted minds, and that we do have a clue. I know that us young adults, teens, or even kids really need you adults and parents to listen to us, that we're suffering. This is a pandemic and we need help.

There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature—the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter. —Rachel Carson

This is really sad, it's a great poem
