Dear society,

We are tired,

Tired of being locked like this,

In your cage of nags and taunts,

We are tired of all your pressurizing,

Something which always haunts.

“She needs to lose some weight”,

“His grades are sinking downwards!”

But let me ask you all,

Who are you to label us?

You say us to be happy and ourselves,

Then you sneer at our choices,

You tell us to do what we perceive,

But then you want our thoughts to be unvoiced.

We are done with hearing your condemnatory outbursts,

We are done with you just being judgemental,

If you really just knew how much it kills us,

And if you really knew how much it hurts.

Let me tell you what we desire for,

We want your jeers to be out of the way,

We really want to rise and shine,

And pursue our dreams, unconfined.

The author's comments:

Hey! Ananya here! This is my first piece of writing that I'm submitting. As its title suggests, this piece of a poem is a poem for society,  for people jeering at our choices, making us feel less wanted, confused, and not being confident enough within ourselves just because of the fear that " what will people say." This poem is about the agony and anger we teenagers have against society when they sneer at us merely because we aren't the same way others are, when we don't want to do what others do and when we want to be someone out of the box.

@SparrowSun Thank you for reviewing my very first poem on this website ! Means a lot to me ! The reason why I carry this agony personally , Is because I’ve experienced things like this , and have seen a lot of people face this . In no way did I mean to pressurise someone through this poem , but I wanted to address the people with a very small mindset and conservative Ideas , who are actually out there , in our society in a great number (especially when someone’s trying to be different then others ) . There are people like you who live their lives perfectly and actually do not care about those negative comments others give about you and are confident enough and I genuinely respect that ! But somewhere I feel the society needs to understand too , especially the ones who jeer at people merely because they perceive things and want to do something differently . They talk about people just because they are different and all I’m asking them ,is to not be judgemental . That’s it .
And surely , this being my first poem , I will try to produce better articles ! Thank you very much!

i mean no offense when i say this, but I feel sort of pressured by this poem. its telling me to feel a certain way- which is actually really good in the right context now that I think about it- but I don't agree. i am defiantly an outsider and an antisocail weirdo, but I'm ok with it. i like me, teachers like me, my family likes me, and God likes me, and ultimately that's what matters. i don't feel judged. i think this poem is overly cynical. again, sorry, don't mean to be rude, especially since your new to teenink. but take this tone with something that you want your opinion shared by, its perfect for that. actually, that might end up mag or something.
