My Truth
Looking in a mirror;
With a reflection unknown looking back.
Who is this person?
Why don’t they ever smile back?
Their body is a cage,
Their mind is a prison.
What do they think about all day?
Why don’t their eyes ever glisten?
Everybody calls them her,
But really they’re a him.
When will the world understand?
When will this ever end?
They hide away,
Their hair and chest.
They change the way,
They talk and dress.
Many shout and scream their way
using their bible as a blade.
They block out the hateful sounds
That try to shut their happiness down.
We are the colours in the sky,
The birds who just want to fly.
We fight and fight every day
To finally see our true selves
One day…

I wrote this piece when I was expereincing an overwelhming amount of dysphoria. I hope that if other trans people can read this then they will know that they are not alone. I wanted to create something that spoke on many struggles and feeings that trans individuals experence/go through everyday in our current society.
