When they think a poem

They groan

It means thinking

About work that isn’t their own.

I think

Another point of view to learn from

A chance to see what you didn’t before.

When they compare poetry to music

They say,

Music

I say,

Poetry.

Music has boundaries, a poem is free

When there is no tune for

How

Mad

Sad

Glad

You are,

There is a poem.

When they think a poem,

They think,

‘This is confusing

There are so many other things

I could be doing’.

I think

A puzzle that is beautiful when put together.

They think,

‘Boring’

I think,

‘History’.

They think,

‘Garbage’

I think,

‘Framed on the wall’.

When they see a poem,

They see a

Piece of paper

With words.

When I see a poem

I see a mirror.

The author's comments:

At school we always have a poetry unit and I am always the only one who looked forward to it. Everyone complained and they were always confused as to why I liked it. That is why I wrote this poem. I wanted to show the beauty of poetry.
