human vulnerability
my neck is just as easy to cut when I hold my head high
as it is when I’m fast asleep
my wrists are just as easy to slash when I’m walking
as they are when I’m unconscious
my heart is just as easy to break when you tell me you love me
as to when you tell me you don’t
you can tear my life to shreds when you come back
just as intensely as you did when you left
we are vulnerable
no matter how we stand, we can be taken down
it is frightening and overwhelming and shocking
that we are still able to hold our heads high,
our wrists out,
our hearts on our sleeves,
our life in our hands
when they can be broken with the touch of another
