The Ferry
Winding twine of life
stretched too thin
It will begin to rip
Tearing its fibers
Staring towards its own end
I will come undone
One second of a rainy day
I pay the ferryman
Step onto the boat
my coat hardly deflecting
the chill of the long
Passed
On, those who had
No choice,
No name,
Not anymore.
Their eyes glazed over
from years
of forgetting, no setting
from the sun that blinds them
The boat begins to move
My coat slick with the souls
Of those who don’t remember
Why
they are
enough
to leave.
