Masterpi—
You will forever be the masterpiece I never got to finish.
The symphony in my head;
an unrelenting repetition of notes that are not quite the end.
You are a daydream lost to time;
my mind has forgotten words—
my lips remember and yearn to move in that familiar way, underneath your familiar gaze.
But it is a fruitless yearning—
those words don’t belong to me anymore.
This painting sits unfinished tucked away in the corner of a lonely attic collecting cobwebs, and nostalgia, and regret.
You are someone else’s sunrise, someone else’s goodnight, and I am just the first goodbye of many.
You were gold-laced, finer than van Gogh or Monet. And I let you go.
Stupid girl, foolish girl—
I chased the sun and lost the stars—
made a reckless decision and left the last page unwritten.
Our love was a masterpiece left unfinished.
