Clear Up
I sit outside on the cold concrete patio while
gray clouds loom over head and cover the brilliant blue sky.
As the sun dims memories flash across my vision like a mirage:
Sitting on a red couch, watching early morning Formula One races.
slamming into the ground to dive for a ball at volleyball practice,
baking cookies with cousins, competitions in the pool to see who could stay
underwater the longest,
Mario Kart games with friends, finishing in thirteenth place,
or laughing at our failed attempts to recite movie titles and character names.
Then, for one second,
the clouds disappear, the sun shines again,
and I remember.
