Wake Up
Not everything is lost.
Staring into the empty gray sky
a heavy feeling weighing on my chest.
I try to take a deep breath
and let go.
But it seems as if the weight has clung onto me.
Wake up.
I stare at the screen.
Stare at the grade.
Content?
Unsatisfied?
Glad?
Frustrated?
Wake up.
I look at the doll in the mirror.
With her morphed face,
red cheeks,
and frizzy hair.
I try to raise the corners of her mouth
but they are set into stone.
I wish I could say I was asleep.
Or “It was just a dream”.
I wish I’ll wake up one day and realize
Not everything is lost.
This poem quotes the last line of Gate A-4 by Naomi Shihab Nye, "Not everything is lost."
