Making Friends
For some, making friends is easy as 1-2-3
For me, it is a little harder than that
A task that is thought as simple for many
Makes my stomach toss and turn
When others see me, they see my face and body
What they don't know, is that my inside is a tidal wave of emotions
Drowning in a sea of my own thoughts,
Stuck in a blizzard of feelings,
Lost in a forest of my own invention,
I try to find my way through these disasters
Suddenly, a building appears
The doors creak open with a great big groan as the building yawned after a very long nap
Inside was an endless amount of knowledge in the form of paper and ink
While I looked around, there was a great big gust of wind
A giant owl flew down from far up in a place I could not see at first
Then smiled with a soft gentle whisper
"What is the matter?" They say tenderly.
I freeze trying to figure out the puzzle of words in my mind
Putting it together is nearly impossible
But this time, I have the courage to finish it
"I'm lost" the words echoing through the empty halls
The smile grows wider on the owl's face,
"You did it!" with a grinning face, the owl cheers loudly
"What did I do?"
"You spoke to me!" they said, calming down a bit
That's good news? I was a bit confused
How could that be good news? All I did was say two words.
I felt like they had done this many times before, but it still felt special
The owl thanked me for my bravery and told me how to find my way home
"Just find yourself in this library and the book will take you home"
After what felt like years of searching, I found a book with my name and face on it
I opened it and was blinded by colors and light
When I opened my eyes I found myself in the car on my way to the first day of school
The feeling of butterflies in my stomach was strong, but I was stronger
Class started and I looked around at my classmates
After introductions were done it was time for lunch
I had nowhere to sit, but I wasn't worried
I didn't need to be worried, the owl showed me that and told me what I needed to do
Again, I looked around at my peers and found a girl sitting alone at a table
I go over to her and say,
"Hi"
