Blindfold

Is it only this generation whose eyes are open,

To the suffering, unfair cruelty of our world

Or have everyone’s eyes been open

But blinded by ignorance and shame

Is it time for everyone to remove the blindfold,

Of shame and guilt and false witness

So that this new generation may not have to suffer

In the world that we have poisoned

They deserve to see the garden we have made

Only in that of its uncovered truth

To see our world in its true reality

That is the real reason for pain and suffering

Let us be honest with ourselves and them

That sexism, racism, prejudice

Isn’t the fault of our ancestors or our victims

That blood spills from our own hands

Let us show them the truth

So that they may have their strength

To resist the urge to take our blindfold

And blind themselves in shame

Let us save them from the heavy chains

Of our guilty conscience

That bound them to the ground with regret

And fear to take action

Let us help them

So that they may be able to do what we cannot.

We rest the world in their hands,

Let them show us the way.

This poem is basically about the issues in our world- and how most people, sometimes older people, like to pick and choose the truth. They like to "Blindfold" themselves in ignornace and shame of themselves.

Hope you enjoy this!
