Burning Words
By burning flame
The tales you tell
The recollections
Ebb and swell
The incantations
Conjurings
Of bygone days
On silver wings
A tiny fragment
Fading fast
Revealed to us
So it will last
If one of us
Should hold the spark
Long may it burn
Into the dark
Bestow to us
Embellished lore
From near forgotten
Days of yore
So we may grasp
Your yarn ablaze
And keep it from
The blurry haze
For fables are
Such fickle things
As uncaged birds
With oiled wings
When one is caught
We hold it fast
Our looking glass
Into the past
We modify
What was before
And tell the tale
To many more
Who add their own
Creative spin
Till veil of truth
Is worn quite thin
Yet underneath
This gilded glaze
Still lies the truth
Within the maze
And even in
The glowing gold
Rest pieces of
The days of old
So know that with
Each tale you give
Your piece of time
May ever live
