I watch the stars twinkle in the midst of all chaos,

I lay alone in a field,

Full of lighting bugs and hay.

I try to drown out the screaming and yelling behind me in my house,

Cutting each other's hearts out with the very mouths they use to soothe.

I sit back and listen to the words they spill,

“I hate you,” “You’re nothing to me,” “I wish you’d leave and ever come back.”

Yet I hear, “I’m sorry, I didn't mean it,”

Those words become soothing to my ears.

I cuddle up next to my Daisy Mae, 

Her fur tickling my nose.

I hold her close and listen to her heartbeat.

Like rain hitting a tin roof,

Water falling off a cliff,

When the screaming stops,

All goes silent.

Even through the internal battles I face,

I star gaze through the night,

Watched over by my angel.

I lay silent, holding my dearest friend.
