Star Gaze

I watch the stars twinkle in the midst of all chaos,

I lay alone in a field,

Full of lighting bugs and hay.

I try to drown out the screaming and yelling behind me in my house,

Cutting each other's hearts out with the very mouths they use to soothe.

I sit back and listen to the words they spill,

“I hate you,” “You’re nothing to me,” “I wish you’d leave and ever come back.”

Yet I hear, “I’m sorry, I didn't mean it,”

Those words become soothing to my ears.

I cuddle up next to my Daisy Mae,

Her fur tickling my nose.

I hold her close and listen to her heartbeat.

Like rain hitting a tin roof,

Water falling off a cliff,

When the screaming stops,

All goes silent.

Even through the internal battles I face,

I star gaze through the night,

Watched over by my angel.

I lay silent, holding my dearest friend.

This is a more personal poem, I wrote it based on true events at my home. My life at home is chaotic and my dog, Daisy, has been there when my family has issues. She is my best friend and my personal guardian angel.

This poem speaks loud to those who struggle with the heart break of hope, and having a moment to take in the scenery around you to get lost in your mind, to wander, to love, to cry.
