Clever Boy
Clever boy,
hair in your eyes,
smile on your lips,
the whole wide world
at your eager fingertips.
Your knuckles cracked
holding tight to the lifeline
but here you are,
you made it out just fine.
You’ve built yourself
quite the beautiful life,
patched every hole
and made it whole.
From drowning boy
to Cap-i-tan—
the world said ‘sink’
and you said ‘swim,’
now you say ‘jump’
and the world says ‘when?’
How far you’ve come,
hair in your eyes,
smile on your lips,
the whole wide world
at your eager fingertips.
