I Am A Portrait- Daniella Ojo

Hanging in the corner of the square box

Taking in the space that surrounds me

I couldn't say I'm exactly lost

My purpose is just to entertain thee

As each person walks past

They admire the frame that holds me in

The bolt that holds me still

The canvas that houses my being

The pretty paints that spread thin

The lines that were drawn on me last

The shapes that lay there for contrast

The people give nods of approval

As the silence lingers

Some walk by, stare

Tears stream from their eye

Others walk by, glance

Disapproval waves them bye

I know my purpose,

why I am bolted up on the wall

Why there's a security gate

Why - people stare and appreciate

Why I can relate

The author's comments:

This poem relates to me and how I feel and probably how everyone feels too. Rather than embracing anxiety and hiding myself, I think of myself as a priceless portrait meant to be seen and so should you too
