When the night comes, we ask ourselves

When will we reach the light in this everlasting shade?

The grief on our shoulders will forever be our guardian

The guardian pointing us toward fate

This fate we, the devotees insist on making great

We’ve seen demons fight and heard our gem wail

But nothing more than the successors in the love of this country fight till the end of the day

And so the day comes and sheep are all over the place

What will we do in this case?

We lift our gazes and direct our visions to the heart of the Mediterranean

Not to what stands between us, but to what stands before us we unite

To the love of our lives

To the place where we nourish and grow

This place we cherish and would die for

But it cried, and what for?

For the blood it lost, the sobs it carried, the losses it failed to count

And then again, what for?

For the lack of mercy and justice

For the corruption and hate

Let the world know:

We will grieve then heal together as one

We will grow wiser, each one

We will fight furiously for our home even if it can’t be undone

Upon the sapphire tears after grief

We sit and ponder in disbelief

Even in grief, its beauty captures our eyes as a thief

The hills we climb, the oceans we swim

As long as we place our purposes before us, we’re in great win.

The author's comments:

As a Lebanese teenager, I feel the urge to illuminate the situation our beloved country faces. Miseries, disasters, corruption, crises. . . Despite all this, I believe in us, the people of Lebanon, those that have had unconditional love for the country since forever, and in our hope and dreams. It is my utmost pleasure to speak of Lebanon for my country will forever and always stand in front of me. I wish for nothing but health, prosperity and security.
