Camp Crush
Time flees like the stars from a sunrise
It stretches like a horizon wide and bright
But moves quickly like a shadow
Oh how I wish I could have my timeline
Long and infinite
A moment of time suspended in a lifetime
But it was five days
Five days for my heart which I had built cards around
To melt into nothingness
You were my camp crush
Nothing more than a passing emotion
A muse for me to forget myself into
No chance of real love blossoming from a dead flower
But you were more than a breath of fresh air
In the sticky concoction of sunscreen and insect repellent
A harsh click of pool balls attacking each other
When they ask about us
I will tell them about you with a smile plastered on
Concealing my heartbreak
Nothing but a slowly dwindling laugh
You were just a camp crush
Summer will fade away like her flowers
Sunlight
And warmth
This was never going to be our summer
There is no us
You were just a camp crush
My name is Esosa Zuwa, and I am a writer and poet who aims to inspire people through stories. I love the feeling that good stories leave you, as they make you feel emotions and keep themselves in your heart. As someone who has felt that time and time again, I want to make other people feel that way too.
