Faster - A Poem About Mental Health
How much longer can I manage?
How much more can I take?
I’ve been trying to sleep for hours
But still, lie here wide awake
Life speeds past as a mirage; am I dreaming?
Why does my mind go faster, faster?
What voice in there is screaming,
As everything spirals to disaster, disaster?
Who is up there, in my brain?
Mumbling ever louder, louder?
Who is it driving me insane
As my focus leaves me faster, FASTER
Is it a plague, a mental disease?
That makes long chaotic images
Out of otherwise peaceful dreams?
Tell me, how do I fix it?
Thoughts are fuzzy more than ever
The voice is screaming louder, louder
Headaches getting harder harder
Heart is racing faster, FASTER
Tell me, please, I beg of you
How do I silence the scream, what can I do?
Tell me how to again be my brain’s own master
Please, it’s getting FASTER, FASTER

I do not have ADHD but I personally knew someone who did and I knew all the struggles they had to face because of it...As you mentioned, it can be a blessing in disguise sometimes...Just embrace the blessings and cast aside the curses...It may be hard but it is worth it in the end...
I have ADHD and while it isn’t always a struggle (it can even be a blessing in disguise, sometimes) having it can make things very challenging. This poem was written on an especially tough night and I decided to try and use poetry to better describe to people how it felt. I hope that anyone reading this with ADHD (or similar issues) knows that they aren’t alone. God bless, and thank you for reading this poem!
