High above the effulgent azure lies a rusty old cage

With gracious little birds.

As silence strikes the skies

The birds begin chirping, loud as they can

Resting above the blended air

I feel hopeless.

Thought to bring life, but nothing at all

Despair, I fear is the only vision seen

Wings clipped and feet tied, birds rage in contempt

What a dream it is to soar through the breeze

And dip your wings around the orange rays

What delusion it is to be set free forever

The birds chant out loud once again, being heard in a distant valley

Deafening a voice can be, wings flattered and demolished chains, the birds escape

Opening their wings wide up towards me,

Singing symphonies of sincerity

The birds are finally a cloud of happiness

Hustling through the deepest of valleys

And flying to the highest of skies

These joys give me hope of freedom

That one day I will be a bright light awaiting them forever.

The author's comments:

In this poem, birds are utilized as a symbol of freedom. Their powerful voices and strive to be set free led to their freedom which evoked strength. This symbolizes the beauty of speaking up for yourself and others as well. A unique aspect is the perspective of this poem: the sun and its hopelessness. Due to the clamorous noises of the birds, the sun wishes to endorse emancipation.

"It's true, Batsy! I know everything. And kinda like the kid who peeks at his Christmas presents, I must admit, it’s sadly anti-climactic. Behind all the sturm and batarangs, you’re just a little boy in a playsuit, crying for mommy and daddy!" — Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker
