The Storyteller
My grandfather loves stories.
He’ll tell all sorts of adventures that he went through,
He’ll tell you about the time he got stuck in Argentina,
And he’ll tell you just to make you laugh.
Whenever he walks through life,
He always hopes something will go wrong,
Just so he can tell a story later on.
He’ll laugh,
He’ll smile,
And he’ll be the loudest one in the room.
So sometimes I wonder.
What stories have I missed?
What stories were told by candlelight at night?
What story was told by a family for years before forgotten?
There was a woman in the 7th century who told her sister about her day.
There was a child in 250 BCE who got up to so many adventures with his friends.
There was a man a hundred years ago who always seemed to captivate others for just a moment.
So maybe,
One day,
His stories will go silent.
But, well, it won’t be for a while.
Someone has to take on the moniker, after all.

This piece is written in honor of my grandfather, who never fails to spin every bad thing into a good story and to all the storytellers out there who always have a story to share.
