"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11

"And see, that’s how you end up headed to destruction/Pavin’ a road to nowhere/Pour your life out for nothin"- The Background by Lecrae

shhh

listen

bend your ear to the wind

                                      you'll hear him

the conductor

calling out

                       "willoughby, last stop

                        last call for willoughby"

ah, but you turn away?

                you open a book

                              or scroll on facebook

                                          and ignore this final call

shame on you

                     shame on you

why don't you want an escape?

a place to get away?

willoughby calls-

                              utterest simplicity-

                                                          and yet, you decline.

friend, you do not know when your life will be over

and the conductor will call no more-

it will be sooner than you think

                                              i promise you that

so run to willoughby

hug your family, smile at strangers

put away the phone and don't think about how good or bad your selfies are

        make new friends, go skydiving

go to the beach and let saltwater stiffen your hair

enjoy willoughby while it lasts

because you only get to visit once

and most people don't visit at all

The author's comments:

This poem was inspired by the Twilight Zone episode "Stop at Willoughby", but with a much less dark twist. Willoughby, in this poem, represents living life to the fullest without distractions.
