Tropic moist swamp

The sky is blue purple and black

The stars begin to sparkle overhead

A little fawn by herself

Trudging across the ground

The mushy gooey brown ground

The trees swaying in the light breeze

Slowly approaching the water

Everything seems still and tranquil

Drinking from the muddied water

Ripples extend from her

And something else

Thick like the tree trunks

Oblong like a boat

Subdued like the night sky

Pointing it’s U-shaped muzzle

Towards the petite fawn

The fawn looks up

As the dark log swims nigher

There is no dread

Not yet not there

A lurch

A bite

An immediate snatch

Not a trace of the fawn

Just the waves in the water

And the alligator whose disappeared
