That Light of Mine

That little light of mine,
I’m gonna let it shine.

I dance in the rain.
I sing to myself.
I smile towards the world.

The world is a clear, deep ocean.
Filled with waves of opportunity.
Opportunities to spread love.
Opportunities for me to shine my light.

I am a surfer.
I ride those waves.

Life is too short not to live it authentically
Ultimately, we only have ourselves.
Our opinion of ourselves is the only one that truly matters.
We must begin loving ourselves before we can share our light with others.

I see the stares, the snickers, and smirks.
The attempts to dim my light.
The one thing I can clearly see though is the pain in their eyes.
The windows to the soul.
Their dimmed light.
The suffering that drives them insane when someone smiles.
They don’t value someone’s happiness; being themselves.

Being different and unique.
Many don't like different.
They fear different.
Different and strange cause people discomfort with themselves.
So, the giggles are plastered over their faces in an attempt to conceal their discomfort.
A mask that's constantly worn.
What would occur if someone saw how they certainly felt?
Uncomfortable with themselves.
The shell they have built around their soul would crack.
Revealing what exactly?

Light is essential because it shines against darkness.
The moon is always shining but it is only bright in the dark.
It can shine so bright that more can find their own light.

Vulnerability is bravery because we have nowhere to hide and no way to pretend.
Our layers are peeled back revealing our souls.

That light of mine,
I'm gonna let it shine.

One day I hope we can live in a world where we all can be authentic.
Empowering all to be the most loving versions of themselves.
A world with less judgment,
Less fear,
And less hate.

A world of healing.
A world of freedom.
A world of love.

That great light of mine,
I’m gonna let it shine.
