Once in a blue moon
I'd hear a familiar melody echo in the distance
and my body would tense up:

I'd sing along to the song,
taken aback by the fact that I still
remember most of the lyrics.

Each and every beat would bring back
memories that I once held dear to my heart.

Those memories I chose to bury deep
At the back of my mind,
Hoping that they'll never resurface

but they did

And here I am now,
Singing along, teary-eyed.

I once let go of bits and pieces
Of hopes and dreams:
I had knowingly given up
the very moment I let the wind blow everything far away in the distance, never to be found.

Yet here I am now,
Holding bits and pieces
Of an unfinished puzzle,

I am reminded
Of everything
That could have been


The author's comments:

Everything you had ever given up on will eventually become yet another "what if" to burden you. Hold on to everything that matters to you, no matter how unrealistic or "embarrassing" you might think it is!
