I am alone yet filled with thousands

When my heartbeats, your cities are destroyed

When I dance, you drown.

When I breathe, you struggle.

I cannot control my motions.

Yet the sight of me insinuates peace

I am filled with your filth

You are slowly killing me, and choosing to do so.

I did not ask for you,

My children were safe before you

I need my heart to beat, I need to dance, I need to breathe.

I am alone yet filled with thousands

My children are taken by fishermen, hungry

My coral is destroyed by scuba-divers, interested

My body is dying, filled with oil, dirty.

Even if you are hungry, interested, or dirty

You take from me as much as you can

Until I am nothing.

The author's comments:

I wrote this piece on the destruction of the ocean and what humans have done to it. I have never been extremely into nature or saving it because I had one eye only for my life but ever since the Willow Project I've had a hard time ignoring it.
