Beat.

He stops moving, he already looks cold,

Remind yourself to breathe.

Beat.

My knees buckle beneath me,

Hands catch my crumbling stomach,

Releasing a trembling scream,

Beat.

His eyes are still open,

Blood pools against his scalp,

Flattening his once perfect hair.

Beat.

I won't see his perfect his hair again,

Fumble his fingers against his tie,

Smile back at me gazing in his reflection.

Beat.

I am released from the cement,

My feet tumbling in front of me,

Hands stretched for one more moment of him.

Beat.

I try to touch him but my fingers are weighed

A barrel of steel containing one bullet left,

Beat.

Realization strikes,

You did this.

Beat. Beat. Beat.

Silience.

“Police open up”

I wanted to add a twist to the image of loss and witnessing someone leave.
