The Memory
The Memory
i hadn't heard you belly laugh in so long
but when i did, boy did i smile.
not the kind of smile like some joke i understood,
or eating a sweet, neon clementine in the summertime.
i mean the kind of smile
when you see a kind old friend
or get overwhelmed with nostalgia and "remember when's"
i don't know
the last time i heard the chords
to your laugh, anyway.
on the old, rickety rocking chair i sit
its circled around me quintillions of times.
so did a little bee, a soft-hum flutter
and the old tunes of your laugh
our favorite song from however lightyears ago
cracking through the lazy radio
my cigarette smoke hanging around in the humid air
maybe the smoke is chasing down the
vibrations of this laugh.
the laugh i want to taste again
like my sweet summer clementine.
i dont know.
i dont know,
i dont know,
i dont ever want to know.
