The raging river of

Our conversations has

Turned to single drops.

The warmth of your touch

Is now absent from my life.

My laughter isn’t

As full anymore.

My smile isn’t

As wide anymore.

The silence between us,

Is as cold as the

Iron bars of a cell.

I don’t want to lose you

But I know I shouldn’t follow you.

It was good.

But now it's over.

The author's comments:

Until very recently, I had a very strong distaste for poetry. I never understood it, I wasn't good at writing it, but my freshman literature teacher helped me learn to appreciate the simple yet so vastly complicated word that is poetry. He encouraged my writing and gave constructive criticism that helped me grow as a writer. This poem is about the emptiness you feel when someone you thought was going to be in your life forever is gone and you miss them, but you don't necessarily want them back. Hope you enjoy!
