Children
Children left alone, nowhere to call their home
Comforts of family a distant memory, maybe not known at all
Dozens past share the same bed, worries sunken into threads
They know their feelings are rarely in mind, they decide to leave those behind
New homes pass in a blur, these people consider only flaws
Sometimes someone nice steps into line, fogging the reality
Homes often worse than the original one, money being earned out of greed
Memories of what it used to be, settle in the sound of night
School is ever changing, changing with the seasons
A worker put in charge, putting the child’s interests afar
Hundreds of cases a day, some are bound to fly away
Slip through the cracks, distant and gone the children become
Much like the homes, the worker is broken
Aged with worry and regret, thoughts of past placements fly around in her head
Lost to the system, plenty never get to age out
Circumstances at times are in favor, granting a family a new member
The wind wisping away a good home, the time was not right
Other times though are the complete opposite, a child put in a home that’s worse for it
Family is important, small children work together to ensure that it is not broken
Placements may take two or a whole bundle of nine, to keep the siblings together
Unlucky things can happen, sometimes a home can’t be a home to more than one kid
Aged foster children work hard, bettering the lives of the ones wearing the shoes they once did
Bills to make reality better, though they are declined by someone who does not know any better
One day the children will speak up, share the tales of childhood left behind
Until then they suffer silently, wondering why no one is helping

It is something that is close to home for my family
and I. Foster Care and the adoption system is something I feel very passionately on. So much so I am going to go into a career of Social Work if all goes to plan.
