As They Passed
It was many and many a year ago,
Like a shooting star bright enough to blind,
Yet gone in an instant,
A stare from one such as them enough to send you into panic,
For the cold pavement burns as they walk by,
The soft touch of their voice like a never ending bell inside your head,
Their lucid warm embrace bringing others closer,
And yet, thrown away when they need it most.
Those scars they never want to take the bandages off of,
Afraid of who they may hurt again,
Those scars binding them to a person they don't wish to be,
No way out,
No way to avoid those who think they know better,
It hurts.
Their only hope being to leave this world,
No strings attached,
Nobody to remember them,
Nobody left to hurt,
Only peace.
