On a rock dashing through space

Our existence is a miracle

The number of possible people greatly outweighs those who have actually existed

Many what could have been doctors

What could have been great inventors

But I ask myself

“What could I do”

How could I change? Do I need to?

With our time here on this planet we are burdened with the question

Why are we here?

A question too big to answer

A pill too big to swallow

A question beyond our comprehension

I am drained day to day

Constantly shown media to keep my looking at my feet

Instead of absorbing the world around me

The air we breathe, the earth we feel beneath us

The “Chronic Sunshine” we feel against our skins

Before we realize our time here on earth is near its end

Wishing time wasn’t spent looking down

But absorbing what is near us

An experience that is incomplete

Like a rope cut too short

The author's comments:

This piece was written after I had the realization that I have spent too much time not embracing the world around me, looking down for days at a time rather then doing small things like looking at the sky and feeling the wind against my hair. More or less taking what is right in front of me for granted.
