Values Essay 2
There are a lot of values that are important to me. And while the most important value to me is self-improvement since the whole point of life is getting better, I still really think that honesty is very important, possibly just as important as self-improvement. While there are instances where it is morally right to not be completely honest, it is still important to be honest most of the time because honesty is what gives two people a real personal connection. Two people who are compulsive liars are not going to form a good relationship together since there will be so much distrust between them since they will never tell the truth, and this would result in the complete fallout of their relationship. The best type of human relationship is that between two people who can be completely honest with one another because this creates no distrust between them and one of the best feelings to have in a relationship is being able to tell the other person everything without having fear of judgment and this is created through honesty for a long period of time between these two people. I think that the only reason honesty isn’t my most important value is because there are some instances where dishonesty is morally right because maybe lying could protect someone’s well-being and protecting the emotions of someone else who is close to you through lying can be better than telling the truth.
I think that honesty is one of the most important steps in building strong human relationships and should be the foundation of the relationships of any two people who are looking to spend any amount of meaningful time together since dishonesty can easily be the catalyst for arguments, hatred, and can completely ruin years of relationships. While honesty can build strong relationships through the mutual feeling of being able to tell the other person everything in truth without worrying about what that person is going to say about it. Honesty is a wonderful value to keep close and I think that everyone should be able to be comfortable being completely honest with the people they are close with since it will make their relationships with those people around them so much better overall.
