Eternal Horrors of the Indian Partition
From north to south, a fractured nation faces an insurmountable plight
Engulfed in the searing partition of India, a relentless fight
Sworded soldiers divide the soul of a nation,
Disrupting unity with their cold precision
Jallianwala Bagh, a place of peace and comfort
Had its rich history mercilessly unearthed
Men, women, and children stood united in their cause
Voices were raised against the oppressive laws
However, soon to arrive was General Dyer,
Bringing along his fifty soldiers and a lifetime of gunfire
The garden’s entrance was a narrow gate
The innocent protestors now having sealed their fate
Without any warning or chance to flee
Dyer’s soldiers opened fire, a merciless spree
Bullets rained on the unarmed crowd
Screams and shouts, ever so loud
Ten minutes of horror
Caused an eternity worth of slaughter
Families torn and bodies on the ground
The atmosphere forever thickened, anguish all around
In the searing partition of India, tragedy knows no end
Two million lost and twenty million forever forgotten
Neither side is victorious
In the pursuit of freedom
After all, it is quick to turn gruesome
When vested interests and hidden intentions
Are masked behind the guise of divine intervention
Villages filled with bodies
Lush blue waters tainted with blood
An entire nation is silenced
When the searing partition of India is licensed

I wrote this piece to remember the indelible legacy of the Indian partition and the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. This poem was produced as part of a school writing project.
