Door's Importance

bright and shiny.

Moving at the behest of electronic devices.

Opening up with a hiss of air, and a draft of cool wind.

Hundreds pass through my secure threshold.

Pressing plastic card to the receiver beside me.

None realize how important my job is.

If one day I refused to open what would they do?

Stuck outside without their precious work.

I am the arbiter of their worth.

Deciding all that are allowed to enter.

Without me all progress stops.

This is why I know I’m the most important employee of the building.

Would you please scan your credentials at the door?

It's inspired by a book I read which started from the perspective of a very sassy office building with an overblown ego. From this inspiration I made this poem which is all about the overblown importance of a simple security door. Whose faulty logic leads them to believe they're the most important employee of the company, and they're not even being paid. All in all I love this poem. My favorite line of the poem is I am the arbiter of their worth. Which I think really drives home how delusional the door is. Or maybe not, maybe you agree with the door. Maybe they’re the most important employe
