The smell of fried fish takes over my nose
I hear the waves,
As they go back and forth into the ocean
As I lay down on the sand with my sunglasses on,
What could possibly be more comforting.
Driving in the car with the windows down
Listen to Juan Luis-Guerra while my parents sing along
My brother and I drinking coconut water in the backseat
My skin tanned from being on the street all day
The beautiful view of the palm trees swaying in the breeze
The people dancing on the street
I can almost taste the freshly fried yaniqueques melt apart in my mouth
The sun beams beating down on my face
All of these senses remind me of my home
The place that makes me feel at ease the most
Even when I am in my own home
The feeling of being on that Island is where my happiness truely is.
